Cookies and your choices
The three kinds of cookie we use
- Strictly necessary
- Always on. They store your consent choice, help keep the site secure, and let features you ask for work, such as keeping your place in a practice test. Consent is not needed for these, as the cookie guidance from the Data Protection Commission explains.
- Analytics
- Off until you agree. Google Analytics uses them to count visits and see which pages learners use, so we know what to improve.
- Advertising
- Off until you agree. Google and its advertising partners use them to show ads, limit how often the same ad appears, measure ads and detect fraud. Third parties, including Google, may place and read cookies on your browser. Ads on this site are set up not to be personalised.
Before you choose
For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google Consent Mode starts with analytics and advertising storage refused, so nothing in those two groups is stored until you agree. Visitors elsewhere may see different defaults.
While consent is refused, Google tags can still send limited measurements that do not set or read cookies, carrying the time, browser details, the page you came from and a random number for that page load. The privacy notice explains how these are handled.
Change your choices
The Cookie choices link in the footer of every page brings you to this section, where you can reopen the choices panel. You can accept or refuse analytics and advertising separately, refusing takes no more steps than accepting, and you can change your mind later just as easily.

We keep your choice for no longer than six months, then ask again, as the Data Protection Commission advises. Clearing cookies in your browser also clears your choice, so the panel appears again on your next visit.
