Who writes the site

Vikas D. writes and checks every lesson, question and guide on this site against the law and official data behind it.

We are not a driving school and give no lessons on the road. The site covers the theory test in the Republic of Ireland only. Northern Ireland and Great Britain have tests of their own, and nothing here is written for them.

Independent of the bodies that run the test

An independent practice site. Not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the Road Safety Authority, Prometric, the NDLS or the National Transport Authority.

The theory test is run by Prometric Ireland Ltd, on behalf of the Road Safety Authority. Driving tests are carried out by the Road Safety Authority (RSA), and learner permits and driving licences are dealt with by the National Driver Licence Service (NDLS), for the RSA.

We have no part in any of that. We do not run the theory test, we cannot book, move or cancel a test for you, and we have no access to the questions it uses. How many questions the real test draws from is not published, so no page here puts a number on it.

How the site is funded

The site is free to use, with no sign-up. It is funded by advertising. Labelled sponsored placements and collaborations with driving schools may also appear.

Nobody can pay to change our content, questions, data or conclusions, and we never sell personal data.

We call the site free because nothing on it is charged for, which is the line Irish consumer law draws: describing a product as free where the consumer must pay is prohibited.

The Advertising Standards Authority Code says a marketing communication must be clearly recognisable as marketing, so a sponsored placement here always says what it is. The disclosure page explains how sponsored material is labelled.

What the site covers

Most important first:

1. Lessons for each study area of the theory test, explaining the rules in plain words and linking the Irish law behind them.
2. Mock theory tests that follow the format of each real test: car, tractor and work vehicle; motorcycle and moped; truck; and bus.
3. Numbered practice sets for each test and each topic, so you can work through the questions for your test without repeats.
4. Road signs and road markings, with what each one means.
5. Data from the Road Safety Authority and the Central Statistics Office, with its source shown beside every figure.

The lessons are built around the topic names published for the test: rules of the road, risk perception, eco-driving, hazard awareness and safe driving behaviour.

Each mock test covers the licence categories of its theory test. The car, tractor and work vehicle test covers B, BE and W; the motorcycle and moped test covers A, A1, A2 and AM; the truck test covers C, CE, C1 and C1E; and the bus test covers D, DE, D1 and D1E.

There is no mock test for the combined truck and bus test or for the truck and bus module tests, because how their questions are split across topics is not published, and a mock built on a guess would mislead you.

• the Road Safety Authority logo, the harp or any agency livery
• text, tables or diagrams from rsa.ie or the Rules of the Road, whose terms allow free reuse for non-commercial purposes only, while this site is funded by advertising
• questions presented as the ones used in the real test
• accounts, sign-up forms or anything to pay for
